Cette chanson a été écrite par Eric Clapton après la mort accidentelle de son fils de quatre ans et demi, tombé de la fenêtre d’un immeuble du 53e étage à New York. Connaître la douleur qui a inspiré les paroles de cette chanson la rend encore plus significative et belle. Eric Clapton a traversé une période où il ne pouvait pas vivre après ce tragique accident, souhaitant rejoindre son fils au paradis, mais comme le montre cette chanson, à un moment donné, et surtout grâce à l’écriture, il a fini par accepter qu’il devait continuer.
